Sierra Leone Police Updates the Public on Nationwide Anti-Drug Operations

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has today provided an update on its ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit drugs during a press briefing held at Police Headquarters in Kingtom. The report covers operations conducted between 3rd and 9th November 2025, jointly carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), SLP, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), and the Office of National Security (ONS).

Addressing the media, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Brima Kamara revealed that a total of 18 suspects were arrested in 13 operations across 13 communities. The seizures included approximately 600 grams of Kush, 40 tablets of 225 mg Tramadol, 7 boxes of 250 mg Tramadol, 235 assorted tablets and capsules, 96 packets of cannabis, various drug chemicals, mobile phones, and cash.

ACP Kamara confirmed that all suspects, along with the unclaimed exhibits, have been transferred to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation.

He further summarized nationwide efforts, noting that a total of 169 raids have been conducted so far. Of these cases, 2 have been charged to court, 99 are under investigation, and 27 individuals were warned and released.

Also speaking at the briefing, Mikel Legai, Head of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit, shared specific case highlights. On Thursday, 6th November 2025, Zainab Binta Samurah was apprehended at Magistrate Court No. 1 attempting to sell 210 Tramadol tablets to inmates. The following day, Friday, 7th November 2025, police arrested John Sheriff Thoronka at Goodrich with 53 Tramadol tablets, while Osman Kamara was arrested in Calaba Town with 627 wraps of suspected Kush.

On Saturday, 8th November 2025, Sheka Kargbo was arrested with 353 wraps of suspected Kush, and on Sunday, 9th November 2025, Sampras Abass Kamara was arrested with 103 wraps of Kush.

Mr. Legai added that TOCU has destroyed large quantities of seized Kush, Tramadol, Marijuana, and Cocaine, as part of its commitment to eliminating illicit drugs from communities nationwide.
