“We don’t have an entertainment industry in Sierra Leone,” King Fisher

Renowned Sierra Leonean Producer and record label owner, King Fisher has said the entertainment sector in Sierra Leone does not have the necessary standards to be called an “Industry”. Fisher was speaking during Ent. Review on Epic Radio.
Fisher who is the owner of Body Guard studio has been a major player in the entertainment space, producing musicians like Emmerson, Shine D God Son and more.
“We have some structures here and there, it is haphazard and doesn’t equate to an industry. An industry is something which has being, tried and tested that we deliberately put plans in place to maintain it,” he said.
Fisher also hit on several subjects like artists management, given his experience with managing artists before. He said entertainers should just stick to entertaining and not venture in to management.
“Artist need to be conscious of their fanbase especially with the help of their managers. One of the major issue is that, entertainers want to manage the industry and that is not the role of entertainer, rather must be focused on entertaining their fans,” he said.
King Fisher is a big believer in the protection of intellectual property rights, he urged the government to do more by stepping up and enforcing the existing laws which has to deal with copyright. Sierra Leonean musicians and filmmakers are among the worse paid in the world, their product is vulnerable to being dubbed or be downloaded for free.
