Breaking : PPRC Suspends APC Over Failure to Pay Fine

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has suspended the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) for failing to pay a fine imposed over alleged violations of political party regulations.
PPRC Chairman Emmanuel Koivaya Amara confirmed on Wednesday during the Epic Morning Show that a formal letter communicating the suspension was delivered to the APC’s national headquarters earlier in the day.
According to the Commission, the fine was issued following statements made by APC National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya and party member Zainab Sheriff at the party’s January 31 mammoth rally. The PPRC said the remarks breached provisions of the Political Parties Act and directives previously issued by the Commission.
“The party failed to comply with the Commission’s directives, including payment of the fine,” Amara said, adding that the suspension takes immediate effect.
The PPRC did not disclose the duration of the suspension but indicated that certain political activities of the party could be restricted until the matter is resolved. Under the Political Parties Act, the Commission has the authority to sanction registered political parties for non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
It remains unclear whether the suspension affects the APC’s participation in on-going political engagements or internal party processes.
