PPRC Fines APC NLe 350,000 Over Inciting Statements

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has fined the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) a total of NLe 350,000 for what it described as “inciting and provocative” statements made by senior party officials during a recent political gathering in Freetown.
In a press release dated February 2, 2026, the Commission said comments attributed to APC Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya Esq. and party member Zainab Sheriff contravened Sections 39(1)(c) and 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act, 2002. The remarks were made at the APC’s “Mammoth Meeting” held on January 31, 2026, at the Atouga Mini Stadium.
The PPRC said it viewed the statements with “grave concern,” characterizing them as profane, obscene, provocative, and capable of inciting public disorder. The Commission noted that the APC had received prior warnings in November 2025 over similar conduct and was expected to exercise restraint in its public engagements.
According to the release, the APC has been given seven days to pay the imposed fines. The Commission warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would attract further sanctions as by law.
The APC had not issued an official response at the time of publication.
