President Bio Welcomes Cardinal Miglio, Praises Catholic Church’s Role in National Development

President Julius Maada Bio on 10th February, 2026 welcomed His Eminence Cardinal Arrigo Miglio to State House during a pastoral visit to Sierra Leone, reaffirming the government’s appreciation of the Catholic Church’s contributions to national development.
President Bio commended the Church’s long-standing role in delivering health care, education, and social services across the country, noting that Catholic institutions have remained critical partners in improving human capital and supporting vulnerable communities.

He described faith-based organisations as essential to social cohesion and peacebuilding, and called for continued collaboration between the state and religious institutions in advancing inclusive development.
During the meeting, President Bio conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to Pope Leo XIV through Cardinal Miglio, underscoring Sierra Leone’s respect for the Holy See and the enduring ties between Freetown and the Vatican.

Cardinal Miglio thanked the President for the warm reception and reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to serving the people of Sierra Leone through pastoral work and humanitarian support nationwide and sustainably.
