Government Pathologist Says Sia Fatu Kamara Died from Manual Strangulation

A government pathologist on Tuesday told the High Court that Sia Fatu Kamara died from asphyxia caused by manual strangulation following a physical assault.
Testifying in the ongoing murder trial, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma said his conclusion was based on findings contained in the official autopsy report conducted after Kamara’s death. He explained that the cause of death was determined to be asphyxia consistent with manual strangulation.
Dr. Koroma told the court that asphyxia occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, preventing normal breathing. He said pressure applied to the neck can rapidly cut off oxygen supply, leading to loss of consciousness and death within a short period.
According to the pathologist, the postmortem examination revealed injuries consistent with forceful compression of the neck, indicating that Kamara’s death was not natural but the result of a violent act.
The testimony forms part of the prosecution’s case against Abdul Kpaka, who is charged with the murder of Kamara, his girlfriend at the time of her death. Kpaka has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The case, first reported in 2024, has drawn widespread public attention due to the circumstances surrounding the death and the relationship between the accused and the deceased.
The trial continues as the court hears further medical evidence and witness testimony.
