APC Secretary General Responds to CID Over Alleged Remarks

The Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC), Lansana Dumbuya Esq., has issued a formal statement to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police, addressing remarks attributed to him during party activities held on January 31, 2026.
In a statement dated February 4, 2026, Dumbuya clarified that his comments were political opinions expressed in good faith and were based on reports from both domestic and international election observer missions regarding the 2023 general elections. He stated that the views expressed were not personal, but rather reflected the long-standing position of the APC on the conduct, transparency, and outcome of the elections.
Lawyer Dumbuya further stressed that his remarks fell within the framework of constitutional democracy and lawful political discourse. He rejected any suggestion that the comments were made with malice or criminal intent.
According to the statement, the APC Secretary General maintained that freedom of expression allows political parties to raise concerns about governance and electoral integrity, provided such expressions do not incite violence, hatred, or public disorder.
The CID has not yet issued a public response regarding the statement or indicated whether further action will be taken.
