Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has urged the public to go about their normal business on Wednesday. His reassurances come in the wake of talks about a possible protest on Wednesday morning to coincide with the court date of former President, Ernest Bai Koroma.
In a usual government press briefing on Tuesday, he said: “Amidst the numerous audios, videos, and messages making rounds on social media, I want to assure the peace-loving people of Sierra Leone that there is work tomorrow, and you are free to go about your normal activities or businesses. I also want to assure you that schools will be open,” Bah said.
Whiles reassuring people to come out, he also cautioned people who may want to disrupt normal activities on Wednesday.
“Anyone who chooses to embark on any illegal activity will face the full force of the laws of Sierra Leone. The security personnel are alert, and they will ensure the ordinary citizens are protected,” he said.
Despite his assurances, Wednesday morning has been slow so far, with schools half empty and public transportation which is largely controlled by private businesses, reluctant to run their normal operations. Very busy places like parks, markets and the city center started slowly, with most businesses observing what is going to happen as the day progresses.
