Surgeons in Action Foundation Begins Free Surgical Outreach at Kingtom Police Hospital

The Surgeons in Action Foundation has commenced a new round of free surgical operations at the Sierra Leone Police Hospital in Kingtom Police Barracks, aimed at improving access to specialized healthcare for police personnel and surrounding communities.
The medical outreach, which started on Monday, February 2, 2026, includes comprehensive medical screening to determine patients’ fitness for surgery. According to the Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent of the Sierra Leone Police Medical Services, Dr. John M. Konteh, only patients who successfully pass the screening process will undergo surgical procedures.
Dr. Konteh disclosed that the surgeries, which begin the same day, will address a range of conditions including lipoma, hernia, appendicitis, and goiter. He described the exercise as part of a long-standing humanitarian partnership that offers free surgical care, helping to reduce the financial burden on patients while expanding access to essential medical services.
He noted that the Surgeons in Action Foundation has been supporting Sierra Leone’s healthcare system for the past three years, making a total of 12 visits to provide free medical and surgical interventions to people with various health conditions.
Dr. Konteh further stated that with the support and intervention of the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, collaboration between the foundation and the Sierra Leone Police has been strengthened to ensure that more beneficiaries are reached.
The outreach is not limited to police officers but also extends to their wives, children, and members of the surrounding communities. Dr. Konteh added that the foundation is expected to remain in Sierra Leone for approximately three months and ten days, providing free surgical services to individuals aged 15 years and above
