19-Year-Old Sentenced to 5 Years for Sneaker Theft
In a session held at Kenema Magistrate Court No. 2 under the oversight of Magistrate Mustapha Brima-Jah, 19-year-old student Wurie Jalloh, a resident of Pujehun Section in Kenema, has been sentenced to five years in the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre. The sentence follows his guilty plea to a charge of larceny, as per Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. The incident in question occurred on June 18, 2024, at 2 Infantry. R. T. I. Layout in Kenema, where Jalloh allegedly stole a pair of sneakers valued at four hundred New Leones (NLe 400) belonging to Dauda Abubakarr Mansaray.
During the proceedings, the accused, having admitted to the crime, appealed for leniency. However, after considering the prosecution’s submission of the case facts and the accused’s previous record, Magistrate Brima-Jah opted for a custodial sentence rather than imposing a fine. This decision was influenced by the accused’s history, indicating this was not his first offense.
Consequently, Wurie Jalloh has been remanded to the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema for a term of five years. Police Constable 13576, Sillah Fatmata, handled the prosecution of the case.
