22 arrested at #EndSARS protest freed by Lagos police
The Lagos State Police Command has released 22 individuals arrested during the #EndSARS memorial protest at the Lekki tollgate on Sunday.
The protesters gathered to demand the full implementation of the judicial panel findings from the 2020 protests. Police dispersed the crowd around 8:30 am, as demonstrators honored those who lost their lives to police brutality.
The #EndSARS protests, which began four years ago, opposed the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), notorious for police brutality. Amnesty International reported that at least 12 protesters were killed in 2020 at the Lekki tollgate by Nigerian security forces.
On Sunday, security forces prevented marchers from proceeding and arrested several participants, including the event’s organizer.
