Sierra Leone Ambassador Engages Turkish-Iranian Firms on Key Industrial Investments

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Iran, H.E. Salamu Koroma, has held a strategic meeting with executives from Turkish and Iranian firms to explore major industrial investments in Sierra Leone, following the Third Iran-Africa International Economic Cooperation Summit.

The meeting brought together Ambassador Koroma and Mr. Mohammad Reza Ayyazi, managing director of TUBA Company (Turkey) and Petrochemical Management Team Co. (Iran), to discuss proposals for industrial projects in Sierra Leone, including petrochemical refineries, solar energy plants, AI-based security systems, and water treatment facilities.

A key proposal featured the introduction of a reverse osmosis (R.O.) water treatment system capable of achieving 90% purification efficiency with low energy consumption and minimal land requirements. Mr. Ayyazi expressed readiness to enter into public-private partnerships and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sierra Leonean government to implement these projects.

“We aim to deploy advanced technology, create employment, and transfer technical knowledge to Sierra Leoneans,” Ayyazi stated.

Ambassador Koroma welcomed the proposals, highlighting Sierra Leone’s focus on industrial growth and the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, including refinery capabilities. He underscored the country’s stability, youthful workforce, and diplomatic ties with nations like Turkey and China as key factors in attracting foreign investment.

“The government of President Julius Maada Bio is open to strategic partnerships that advance our national development goals,” Koroma said. He emphasized the urgent need to improve water and agricultural infrastructure and pledged to link the firms with the relevant ministries.

The engagement forms part of Sierra Leone’s broader strategy to deepen economic cooperation with Iran and other international partners.
