African Nations Seek $25B Boost for Development Fund
Sudan has raised its pledge to the African Development Fund (ADF), committing $3 million to support the Fund’s 17th replenishment. Sudan’s Finance Minister, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim Mohamed Fediel, announced the contribution at the World Bank-IMF annual meetings in Washington, joining finance leaders from The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina.
The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Ghana have collectively committed a minimum of $1 million each toward the ADF’s goal of raising $25 billion by 2025. Adesina praised Sudan’s pledge as a “powerful show of unity,” underlining ADF’s critical role in financing regional infrastructure across 37 nations.
This announcement follows other notable pledges, including Kenya’s $20 million commitment from President William Ruto.
