APC Ends Boycott, Orders MPs and Councilors Back to Governance

The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has, in a press release dated 29th April 2026, announced that its elected officials will return to Parliament and local councils, ending months of boycott in line with a communiqué issued by international partners following a joint assessment mission in Sierra Leone.
In a press statement, the party said the decision was taken “in good faith” and in honour of commitments outlined by the International Moral Guarantors, particularly the call for the APC to fully re-engage in governance processes.
APC Members of Parliament are expected to resume participation at the next sitting of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, while all opposition councillors have been instructed to return to their duties with immediate effect.
The party, however, urged the government to demonstrate reciprocal commitment by fast-tracking key aspects of the agreement. These include laying the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee Report before Parliament to ensure transparency and national ownership, and facilitating the establishment of a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Electoral Matters to review the electoral cycle and guide reforms ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to the APC, the communiqué makes clear that these measures form part of a structured roadmap aimed at restoring trust, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring inclusive governance.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement, accountability, and reforms to guarantee credible elections and national stability, but cautioned that the success of the process depends on the timely and genuine implementation of all agreed measures.
It further called on all stakeholders, including the government, Parliament, and oversight institutions, to act with urgency and sincerity in fulfilling their obligations, stressing that its actions remain guided by the interests of peace, democracy, and the people of Sierra Leone.
