Former Leone Stars Coach Reapplies for National Team Job Weeks After Dismissal

The race for the Leone Stars head coach position has taken a dramatic turn after the former Sierra Leone senior national team coach officially confirmed that he has reapplied for the vacant role just weeks after being dismissed by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
In a statement released on social media, the former coach disclosed that he formally submitted his application through the office of the SLFA General Secretary and via the federation’s official email, in accordance with the procedures announced by the football governing body.
The coach, who was relieved of his duties on April 2, 2026, described the reopening of applications as a standard administrative process and insisted that it was only professional for him, as a licensed football tactician, to submit his credentials again for consideration.
According to him, his decision to return to the race is driven not only by personal ambition but also by his commitment to Sierra Leone football and respect for professional coaching standards.
Despite the controversy surrounding his dismissal earlier this year, the former Leone Stars boss maintained a conciliatory tone, stating that he remains ready to serve the country if given another opportunity.
“Fingers crossed. Put me in your prayers,” he wrote, before adding: “I will always put Mama Salone first.”
His announcement has already generated intense debate among football supporters and stakeholders, with opinions sharply divided over whether the SLFA should consider reappointing him to lead the national team again.
While some fans believe continuity and experience could benefit the Leone Stars, others argue that the federation should pursue a fresh direction with a new technical setup ahead of upcoming international competitions.
The reopening of the coaching position is expected to attract applications from both local and foreign candidates as the SLFA continues its search for a substantive head coach for the country’s senior men’s national football team.
