HRCSL Calls For Public Support to Address Business Human Rights Issues
The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) has urged greater public collaboration to address persistent human rights issues in the nation’s business sector.
Mr. Yollah Bangura, HRCSL’s Director for Business, Human Rights, and Labour Relations, highlighted efforts to develop Sierra Leone’s first National Action Plan (NAP) on Business and Human Rights. Speaking to Awoko Newspaper, Bangura explained that the NAP aims to address longstanding human rights concerns in the business environment.
A recent two-day consultation at Bombali District Council Hall brought together over 40 stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), mining companies, academia, and parliamentarians. This engagement sought input to shape the NAP, supported by the Government of Sierra Leone, UNDP, and Irish Aid.
“This process ensures the NAP reflects all sectors’ concerns and creates clear guidelines for businesses to respect human rights,” Bangura said, emphasizing the importance of public-private collaboration.
HRCSL remains committed to fostering transparency, accountability, and a rights-based business environment through this strategic initiative.
