IDA21 Secures $100B for Global Development in Africa
The IDA21 replenishment has achieved a historic $100 billion funding milestone, with over 70% allocated to Africa. This significant step emphasizes addressing economic and climate challenges while reaffirming global support for low-income nations.
The final meeting in Korea brought global leaders together, hosted by Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister Sang-mok Choi, who highlighted Korea’s journey from an IDA recipient to a growth leader. “Korea’s success is a testament to global collaboration,” he remarked, announcing the surpassing of funding expectations despite economic difficulties.
Axel van Trotsenburg, World Bank’s Senior Managing Director, praised donor efforts, which raised $23.7 billion to leverage the $100 billion for health, education, infrastructure, and climate resilience. With a focus on Africa, van Trotsenburg stressed the transformative potential of the funds to stabilize economies and build resilience.
