Justice Alhadi Elected to Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges’ Association
Supreme Court Judge Honourable Justice Fatmatta Bintu Alhadi has been elected as the Gender Representative for West Africa to the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges’ Association (CMJA), securing Sierra Leone’s presence on the international judicial stage.
Justice Alhadi’s election is seen as a major milestone for the country’s judiciary and aligns with Chief Justice Komba Kamanda’s policy of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment within the legal system.
In addition to her new role with the CMJA, Justice Alhadi was recently appointed Chairperson of the General Legal Council (GLC), the body responsible for regulating the conduct and professionalism of legal practitioners in Sierra Leone.
Chief Justice Kamanda described the victory as “a proud moment for the judiciary and for Sierra Leone,” congratulating Justice Alhadi on what he called a “well-deserved achievement.”
Justice Alhadi, in her response, thanked the Chief Justice for his leadership and for providing opportunities for Sierra Leonean judges to serve on global platforms.
Her election further enhances Sierra Leone’s visibility within international legal networks and underscores the judiciary’s ongoing reforms and commitment to professional excellence.
