Leone Stars Miss Out on AFCON 2025 After Zambia Defeat

Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars fell short of qualifying for AFCON 2025 following a 2-0 loss to Zambia on November 19, 2024.

The defeat capped a challenging Group G campaign where Sierra Leone finished third with five points, tallying one win, two draws, and three losses. Despite a highlight victory against defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, the Leone Stars conceded ten goals and scored only five across six matches.

Zambia topped the group with 13 points, followed by Côte d’Ivoire with 12, both advancing to the tournament. Goals from Emmanuel Banda and Kennedy Musonda in the 55th and 71st minutes sealed Zambia’s win, ending Sierra Leone’s AFCON hopes.
