Macky Sall Resigns as Paris Pact Special Envoy
Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has resigned as Special Envoy for the Paris Pact for People and the Planet (4P), a position appointed by French President Emmanuel Macron in 2023. His resignation coincides with his nomination as the leader of the opposition coalition, Takku Wallou, as he focuses on the upcoming Senegalese legislative elections on November 17.
In his resignation letter, Sall stated that he wants to “avoid any risk of incompatibility and conflict of interest” regarding his candidacy. Macron offered him the role after Sall chose not to seek a third term.
Sall’s return to the political arena, following his support for Bassirou Diomaye Faye, represents a pivotal moment in the legislative campaign. Six months after losing the presidential race, his coalition aims to regain momentum and unite the opposition against the ruling Pastef party in parliament.
