Mary Yongai Sets New Guinness World Record
Mary Yongai has set a new Guinness World Record for the most cosmetic makeovers in 24 hours by a single artist, completing 111 makeovers and surpassing the previous record of 96 set in 2005.
A renowned makeup artist, Yongai achieved this feat in May 2024 at the Bintumani Car Park in Freetown. Her initial goal was 100 makeovers, but she exceeded expectations by reaching 111 within the 24-hour timeframe. The event attracted participants from various institutions, including local celebrities, who came to support her.
Yongai persevered through the challenge with only a 20-minute break. Despite exhaustion, she finished the event but fainted immediately after, though she was revived shortly afterward. This marks Sierra Leone’s second Guinness World Record, following the largest Sampa dance held in 2012 at the National Stadium in Freetown.
Yongai’s accomplishment not only highlights her exceptional talent but also shines a spotlight on Sierra Leone’s growing presence in global record-breaking achievements.
