New development plan to focus on Big 5 – Min. of Development

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Barlay has said the new development plan will focus on the Big 5 game changers of President Julius Maada Bio’s government.

Madam Barlay said so during the weekly government press briefing on Tuesday, 16th January. As part of her remarks, she said a new framework is being designed for the Medium-Term National Development Plan, and the plan will run for six years.

“We will implement the plan by establishing targets and policies aligned with the nation’s vision, specifically the five big changers outlined in the president’s 2023 manifesto,” Barlay said.

Barlay said a massive consultation is on the way with over 8000 people from different background set to be involved in the development of the plan.

“Judicial leaders, council members, market women, youths, bike riders, and school children from across the country will actively participate in discussions, providing valuable feedback,” she said.

The Minister of Development said the new plan will roll out for the next six years and end in 2030 to coincide with the target of the UN Sustainable Goals 2030.

“Our previous decade-long plans were implemented over five years. However, this time, our plan will extend from January 2024 to December 2030 to synchronize with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030,” she said.

One of the Big 5 game changers in the President Bio’s manifesto is “Feed Salone”, which will focus on agricultural productivity. Barlay said the development plan will try and put this at the heart of its framework, whiles trying to increase the country’s GDP through agriculture.
