New ‘Tentative’ Fuel Price Increases Across Sierra Leone

Unconfirmed reports circulating on social media claim that the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), under the authority of Brima Baluwa Koroma, has announced a new fuel pricing structure for January 2026, resulting in increased pump prices nationwide.
According to the circulating information, the revised Petroleum Pricing Regime sets the price of petrol and diesel at Le 28.50 per litre, kerosene at Le 26.76 per litre, and fuel oil at Le 25.98 per litre.
The reports indicate that the adjustment follows a full pass-through pump pricing mechanism, which reportedly takes into account international petroleum market prices, freight and insurance costs, exchange rate movements, and applicable domestic charges.
Social media posts further claim that the new prices are to take immediate effect across the country.
As of the time of filing this report, the NPRA has not issued an official public statement confirming or denying the alleged price changes. Efforts to obtain clarification from the Authority were unsuccessful.
Fuel pricing remains a highly sensitive issue in Sierra Leone, given its direct impact on transportation costs, food prices, and the general cost of living. The public has therefore been urged to await official communication from the NPRA for accurate and verified information.
