NIB Pushes for Streamlined Business Registration Process

The National Investment Board (NIB) has on the 16th June, 2026 called for greater coordination among government institutions and private sector stakeholders to simplify business registration and licensing procedures in Sierra Leone.

The call was made during a one-day Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) held at the Freetown City Council Conference Room under the theme, “Harmonizing Local Pathways, Unlocking Investment: One Clear Process.”

The dialogue brought together representatives from government agencies, the private sector, and development partners to discuss challenges affecting business registration and identify solutions aimed at improving the country’s investment climate.

Addressing participants, NIB Executive Director Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy said cumbersome and lengthy registration processes remain a major obstacle for investors and entrepreneurs seeking to establish businesses in Sierra Leone.

He said the National Investment Board has taken steps to address those challenges through the establishment of a One-Stop Shop Centre designed to simplify and accelerate business registration procedures.

According to Dr. Sandy, the centre provides a centralized platform where investors can access multiple services required for business establishment and operation, reducing delays and bureaucratic bottlenecks.

“The objective is to make the registration process faster, easier, and more efficient for both local and international investors,” he stated.

Dr. Sandy further disclosed that the Board is working closely with relevant government institutions to facilitate access to essential services, including utilities, infrastructure, and financing opportunities for businesses.

He noted that partnerships are being strengthened with key agencies to improve access to loans and other forms of support needed by entrepreneurs and investors.

The NIB Executive Director also highlighted the Board’s role in promoting public-private partnerships, describing them as critical mechanisms for attracting investment and driving economic growth.

He said the Board serves as a coordinating institution that brings together government entities and investors to identify and develop mutually beneficial investment opportunities.

Dr. Sandy assured investors that Sierra Leone remains open for business and continues to attract both local and foreign investment despite global economic challenges.

He described the country as a promising investment destination, citing ongoing reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and the overall ease of doing business.

The NIB boss encouraged investors to explore opportunities across various sectors of the economy and urged stakeholders to collaborate in promoting sustainable national development.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to private sector growth, noting that President Julius Maada Bio’s administration has implemented several reforms intended to attract investment, stimulate economic activity, and create employment opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.

The dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts by the National Investment Board to enhance the country’s business environment and position Sierra Leone as a competitive destination for investment in the region.
