Orange Sierra Leone has on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 1 Alpha Wurie Drive, Hill Station, Freetown officially launched its Scam Alert and Fraud Reporting Tool to help protect customers from digital fraud and scams across the country.

Speaking at the launch, Consumer Relations Manager at the National Consumer Protection Commission, Bernadette B. Fullah, welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important step towards strengthening consumer protection and protecting people from the growing threat of digital fraud.

She said the Commission’s responsibility is to protect consumers, promote their rights and interests, and ensure that businesses provide safe, transparent and reliable services.

Fullah noted that the increasing use of mobile money and other digital financial services has also exposed consumers to different forms of fraud, including fake promotions, impersonation, phishing and unauthorized transactions.

She commended Orange Sierra Leone for introducing a system that allows customers to report suspicious numbers, transactions and other fraudulent activities.

She added that the National Consumer Protection Commission remains committed to working with Orange Sierra Leone and other stakeholders to strengthen consumer protection in the digital economy.

Representing Civil Society Organisations, William B. M. Sao-Lamin also commended Orange Sierra Leone for the initiative.

He said fighting digital fraud should not be the responsibility of telecommunications companies alone, but should involve government institutions, regulators, law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, civil society organisations, the media and consumers.

Sao-Lamin said civil society organisations have an important role to play through public awareness, digital literacy, community education and advocacy.

He encouraged Orange Sierra Leone to make the reporting tools easy to access and understand, especially for people with limited digital knowledge and vulnerable groups.

He also called for public education to be extended beyond Freetown to communities across the country through radio, schools, social media and community engagement.

In her keynote address, Orange Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer, Aicha Toure, said the company continues to look for ways to protect its customers nationwide.

She said the Scam Alert and Fraud Reporting Tool will help customers identify and report numbers being used for fraudulent activities.

Toure said fraud has become a national concern and noted that concerns about fraud have also been raised at Parliament.

She explained that fraud does not only affect individual customers, but also families, businesses, financial institutions and public confidence in digital services.

The Orange Sierra Leone CEO warned customers about fake messages and calls from people pretending to represent Orange.

She stressed that Orange Sierra Leone will never ask customers to send money to receive a package, or request their Orange Money PIN or password.

Toure encouraged Orange customers to call 111 whenever they receive suspicious calls or messages asking them to send money.

She said the company will respond quickly and take the necessary action.

She said the new initiative is not only about technology, but also about protecting people, their livelihoods and their confidence in digital services.

She concluded by commending government institutions and other stakeholders for working with Orange Sierra Leone to ensure that customers remain safe and protected.

Government officials, stakeholders, civil society organizations and members of the media attended the ceremony.
