Police Officer Facing Domestic Violence Allegations Could Be Dismissed
Alhassan Tejan Kamara, an officer in the Sierra Leone Police’s Operational Support Division (OSD) stationed in Kamakwie, is on the verge of dismissal following a disciplinary hearing for misconduct.
The Sierra Leone Police’s Disciplinary Hearing Committee has recommended Kamara’s dismissal after he admitted to assaulting his girlfriend, an incident that has sparked significant public outcry.
During the hearing on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Kamara faced three charges, which were thoroughly reviewed by the committee. The final decision on his dismissal now awaits approval from the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Should the dismissal be confirmed, Kamara could also face criminal charges under the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.
