Political parties commit to support Democracy

Major political parties made the commitment whiles condeming the November 26 attempted coup.
The leadership of Political Parties was updated on the progress of the investigations of the November 26th Coup attempt.
The chairman of PPRC started by thanking the Security Sector actors for the professional manner in which they responded to attack the security of the state. He underscored the fact that they warded off the attackers without any civilian casualties.
He Commended all registered political parties for their condemnation of the attempted coup.
The National Security Coordinator (NS Coord), Office of National Security, chaired the meeting.
While giving a general update on the investigations and encouraged Political Parties to continue their condemnation of the failed coup and to admonish their supporters not to do anything that will prejudice the ongoing investigations and the matters now in court.
The Chief Ministerj (CM), David Sengeh
in his statement, said “I assured everybody that is in this meeting of their security and that the Tripartite Dialogue is ongoing and will be continued he said”
The Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police (IGP) whilst giving the statistics of the people being investigated and those that have been charged to court said
“A total of Thirteen (13) civilians have been arraigned in civil court and twenty seven military personnel before a Court Martial. The investigation is ongoing”
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) also gave details of the number of military personnel that have been investigated and arraigned before the Court Martial.
The NS Coordinator also informed the meeting about the deaths of Eighteen (18) serving personnel during the failed coup.
There were various contributions and questions from the leadership of the Political Parties that were in attendance.
The Deputy National Leader of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party in his contribution, condemned what he described as the dastardly act of November 26th and that his party (APC), has nothing to do with what happened on that night and even though their former Leader and Chairman is one of those charged, it is not the APC that is on trial.
He also stated the fact that the leadership of the party has been making efforts to meet with His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone to reiterate their condemnation of the attempted coup and extended his party’s sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the slain 18 serving personnel.
