President Bio Receives U.S. Foreign Policy Association Medal
The U.S. Foreign Policy Association awarded its prestigious Foreign Policy Association Medal to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at the 2024 World Leadership Forum Dinner. This honor recognizes his exemplary leadership and contributions to national progress and global diplomacy.
In his acceptance speech, President Bio expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the medal symbolizes Sierra Leone’s ongoing journey toward growth and development. He highlighted the nation’s resilience in overcoming challenges while maintaining a commitment to democracy and good governance.
“I am deeply honored to accept this award on behalf of Sierra Leone,” he said. “Our commitment to democracy, though tested, remains steadfast, and we continue to strive for governance that serves the common good.” He emphasized key achievements during his tenure, including the passage of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act, efforts to uphold a free press, and the creation of Sierra Leone’s national development plan.
President Bio reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing Sierra Leone’s role on the global stage, particularly as a member of the United Nations Security Council, where the country actively contributes to international peace and security. “Leadership is about service and trust. Our duty is to uplift, unite, and pursue justice for the people we represent,” he remarked. “History will remember us not by the titles we hold, but by the difference we make in people’s lives.”
This award signifies not only the international recognition of President Bio’s domestic initiatives but also his growing influence in global leadership.
