President Bio Unveils Sierra Leone Peace Art at UN
President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has launched the Sierra Leone Peace-building Art Exhibition at the United Nations, a significant display of the nation’s journey toward peace and reconciliation.
“I am deeply honored to open this remarkable Art Exhibition on Peace-building in Sierra Leone,” President Bio stated, emphasizing the exhibition’s role in demonstrating the resilience and strength of Sierra Leone’s people.
Sharing his personal connection to peace-building, President Bio said, “My involvement in Conflict Resolution and Peace Building is not just professional but deeply personal. From my days in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces to my doctoral research, this journey has been a central part of my life long before I assumed the presidency in 2018.” His words highlighted his enduring commitment to consolidating peace through dialogue and institutional development.
The exhibition showcases essential elements of Sierra Leone’s transitional justice process, such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, and the Monument and Relic Commission.
“This Exhibition combines memory, truth-telling, and accountability, the core pillars of our transitional justice process,” President Bio explained, stressing the importance of memorialization in healing and preventing future conflicts. The exhibition is a powerful testament to the lessons learned from Sierra Leone’s civil conflict and the ongoing dedication to peace.
