Putin and Ramaphosa Hold Bilateral Talks at BRICS Summit

President Vladimir Putin met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday during the BRICS summit.

Putin praised the strong trade and economic ties between Russia and South Africa, noting a recent 3% growth in trade turnover from January to August after a slight decline. He emphasized potential collaboration in energy, agriculture, industry, science, and innovation to enhance mutual trade and investment.

Ramaphosa echoed these sentiments, highlighting Russia as a valued ally that has supported South Africa since the apartheid struggle.

The summit, attended by over 20 leaders, is ongoing until October 24, defying expectations that the Ukraine war and Western sanctions would isolate Putin internationally.
