Rice Value Chain Project and Seed Program Sign MoU
The Regional Rice Value Chain Project, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Seed Multiplication Program (SMP) to boost seed production in Sierra Leone.
This partnership, part of the project’s initiative to foster an enabling policy environment, will enhance SMP’s capacity through key areas like capacity-building and operational support. The collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening seed production, vital for the rice value chain’s success in the country.
Edward Smart Gbappi, SMP Program Manager, expressed gratitude for the project’s support in funding and logistics, which will expand seed production. He emphasized that the resources will significantly increase seed yields and scale up operations nationwide.
Abdulai Bun Wai, Project Coordinator of the Regional Rice Value Chain Project, stressed the importance of efficient use of funds, as high-quality seeds are essential for improving rice production. He urged SMP to ensure the resources are used effectively to achieve the partnership’s goals.
