SLANGO Awards SEND Sierra Leone Three Honors
SLANGO, the Sierra Leone Organization of NGOs, honored SEND Sierra Leone with three prestigious awards at its annual dinner and awards night at New Brookfields Hotel. The awards celebrated SEND’s outstanding contributions to national development.
During the event, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Ballay, praised SEND for its relentless efforts in transforming communities, especially in remote areas. “SEND Sierra Leone’s work is profoundly impacting various sectors,” Ballay stated.
SEND received the following awards:
- Education Sector Award: Recognized for promoting lifelong learning through building schools, improving access to education, and encouraging STEM learning, especially for girls.
- Gender, Social Welfare, and Inclusion Award: Acknowledged for advancing gender equality and empowering marginalized groups through initiatives like Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) and women’s leadership programs.
- Governance Sector Award: Honored for promoting inclusive governance, civic education, and grassroots participation in electoral processes, ensuring the voices of marginalized groups are heard.
Joseph Ayamga, SEND Sierra Leone’s Executive Country Director, expressed gratitude, emphasizing that the recognition reflects years of commitment, partnerships, and community-driven development. He highlighted SEND’s journey from a small NGO in Kailahun to a national force, influencing policies and empowering communities across the country. Ayamga credited their success to a bottom-up approach, strategic partnerships, and a focus on sustainable growth that allowed the organization to expand and deepen its impact nationwide.
