South African Beauty Queen Withdraws from Miss Universe

South Africa’s beauty queen, Mia Le Roux, has withdrawn from the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico, citing health concerns. Her decision leaves South Africa unrepresented at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, despite her participation in rehearsals and events leading up to the finale.

In a statement, Le Roux expressed gratitude for the support from her fans and thanked South Africa for their unwavering backing. She did not specify the nature of her health issue.

At 28, Le Roux made history in August as the first hearing-impaired woman to be crowned Miss South Africa. Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at age one, she uses an implant to aid her hearing. South Africa has won the Miss Universe title three times, in 1978, 2017, and 2019.
