World Leaders Meet at UN Climate Conference
At COP29 in Baku, key world leaders from China, the U.S., India, Germany, and France are notably absent, raising concerns among activists about a lack of commitment from major emitters in tackling the climate crisis. Despite this, many argue that the urgency of addressing climate change remains undiminished.
Climate advocate Shiva Gounden emphasized the importance of global unity, stating, “Big leaders’ absence sends a bad signal, but the world must unite to find solutions. Climate change impacts communities like mine in the Pacific.”
The summit will feature strong representation from leaders of small island nations and African countries, who are among the most vulnerable to climate change. These nations will push for increased funding for adaptation, emissions reductions, and stronger international cooperation to meet global climate goals.
