Xi Jinping Praises Bio’s Leadership
China’s President Xi Jinping has commended President Julius Maada Bio for his leadership during a bilateral meeting ahead of the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). President Xi praised Bio’s role in global peace and security, particularly his leadership at the UN Security Council and the African Union’s C-10, while reaffirming China’s support for Africa’s push for UN reforms.
President Xi pledged to deepen cooperation with Sierra Leone in areas like agriculture, fisheries, mining, and infrastructure, and announced increased Chinese development assistance. In response, Bio expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support, highlighting strengthened trade relations, particularly with Sierra Leone’s recent International Fish Export Certification.
Bio also called attention to security challenges in the Sahel, assuring Xi that Sierra Leone remains a dependable partner to China. The meeting concluded with a banquet hosted by Xi for Bio, his wife Fatima Bio, and other African leaders.
