2,763 Gender-Based Violence Cases in 2023
Rainbo Initiative has released its 2023 Annual Report on the Fight Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.
The report documents that 2,763 survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) sought refuge in various centers across Sierra Leone. Of these, 2,743 were female survivors, with monthly figures ranging from 164 to 289. Male survivors, though fewer, totaled 20 cases throughout the year. The Rainbo Initiative emphasizes that these statistics represent individual survivors.
Operating seven centers nationwide, Rainbo Initiative provides essential services such as counseling, medical support, and advocacy for GBV survivors. Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) refers to violence committed against a person due to their sex or gender, involving coercion, threats, deception, or economic means.
The Annual Report highlights the significant achievements of the organization, offering a comprehensive overview of their programs and initiatives. It showcases the positive changes they have brought to the lives of survivors and the communities they serve, and underscores the effectiveness and success of their efforts through key data and statistics.
