BREAKING: Shooting Stars vs. Ghana U-20 Friendly Match Cancelled
By Reginald Brian Ojukutu Sawyerr
The much-anticipated international friendly between Sierra Leone’s U-20 team, the Shooting Stars, and Ghana’s U-20 side has been called off. Scheduled to take place today in Morocco, the match was expected to be a key part of the teams’ preparation ahead of the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
A senior official from the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) expressed his disappointment over the cancellation, saying, “We were looking forward to this match as part of our development plan for the Shooting Stars. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have led to its cancellation. We are, however, exploring alternative friendly matches to ensure our team gets the necessary preparation.”
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has cited injuries to key players and the return of foreign-based players as the reasons for their inability to fulfill the fixture.
Fans, who were eagerly anticipating the clash of young talents from both nations, have voiced their frustrations, with many urging for better planning in future fixture arrangements.
Despite the setback, the Shooting Stars remain focused on their preparations. They will continue their training as they aim to build a strong and competitive squad for upcoming regional and continental tournaments.
