British-born Sierra Leonean Curtis Eugene Davies has officially announced his retirement from professional football.
“It’s not a decision I’ve made lightly,” Davies shared. “Football has been my life for over two decades. From my early days at Luton Town to my time at West Brom, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Hull City, Derby County, and finally, Burton Albion, the game has given me so much. I’ve experienced both the euphoria of promotion and the disappointment of relegation. I’ve made lifelong friends and unforgettable memories. Most importantly, I’ve had the honor of playing in front of some of the best fans in the world.”
Reflecting on his career, Davies recalled the roar of the crowd and the chants that lingered long after the final whistle. “Football has a unique way of uniting people and fostering a sense of community and belonging. I’m grateful to have been a part of that.”
Taking a deep breath, he continued, “But now, it’s time for me to step aside and make way for the next generation. I want to spend more time with my family and be there for my children as they grow up. While I’ll miss the game, I’m excited about the future.”
“I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and the clubs that believed in me. But most of all, I want to thank the fans. Your support has meant everything to me. I hope I’ve made you proud.”
As Davies concluded his announcement, the room erupted into applause. He felt a lump in his throat but managed to stay composed. Having given everything to the game, he now looked forward to a new chapter in his life.
“Thank you, football,” he whispered. “For everything.”
With a final look around the stadium, Curtis Davies walked away, ready to embrace the next adventure life has in store.
Curtis Davies played three official games for the Leone Stars, scoring his first goal for Sierra Leone in a 2-1 victory against Djibouti during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
