Deputy Education Minister Talks Human Capital Development in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Madam Mamusu Patricia Komeh-Massaquoi, addressed the Regional Data and Community Development Forum in Sharjah, UAE, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing human capital through education.

At the inaugural forum, which focused on data-driven sustainable community development under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Deputy Minister participated in a panel titled “Overcoming Unemployment with a Click.” She highlighted the government’s Free Quality Education initiative, including free tuition, school feeding programs, and the provision of teaching materials, which have significantly improved access to education despite existing challenges.

Komeh-Massaquoi also discussed several key government initiatives aimed at providing skills training and job opportunities for youth, such as the Youth Employment Support Project, National Youth Service, Sierra Leone Opportunities for Business Action, and the Boosting Agriculture and Food Security Project. These programs have empowered young people to start small businesses, enhance market access, and contribute to national development.

Furthermore, she addressed President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s policies on women’s empowerment and economic participation, noting that the recent Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act has increased women’s representation in politics and governance, safeguarded the welfare of women and girls, improved educational standards for girls, and fostered greater involvement of women in national development.
