ECOWAS President in Freetown for crucial talks

The President of the ECOWAS Commission Dr. Omar Alieu Touray has arrived in Freetown to hold crucial talks with the government of President Julius Maada Bio.
Epic Radio understands some of the talks will be about general development issues and security concerns in the region. Another component of the talks as well will be about the future of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, who is facing a treason trial.
In a widely circulated letter last week, ECOWAS President offered a number of alternatives to President Bio including an option to relocate the Koroma to Nigeria.
Sierra Leone Foreign Minister, Timothy Kabba has since attested to having received a letter from the ECOWAS Commission President outlining the plans for former president Ernest Bai Koroma’s temporary relocation. However, Kabbah stated that his government did not approve of the letter’s contents “because it is a unilateral proposition by the ECOWAS Commission president.”
How much about this subject will be ratified by the ECOWAS President and the government of Sierra Leone, will depend on how through the talks will be.
Omar Alieu Touray is the President of the ECOWAS Commission. He changed into appointed by way of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government throughout the Sixty-First Ordinary Session of the Authority in Accra, Ghana, on July 03, 2022 to serve for a 4-12 months time period. Dr Touray is a Gambian diplomat and improvement professional.
