EU Grants $96M Loan to Cameroon for Infrastructure

The European Union has pledged a €91 million ($96 million) loan to Cameroon to boost its infrastructure and attract foreign investment. The loan, announced in Yaoundé, will support projects in energy, road networks, and a railway linking Cameroon to Chad, as well as a bridge over the Ntem River connecting Cameroon to Equatorial Guinea.

Cameroon faces significant infrastructure challenges due to years of neglect and a separatist conflict in the west. The EU is already funding major infrastructure projects, including a hydroelectric dam and a bridge to Chad. EU officials emphasized that the loan’s success depends on proper management of the funds, with a focus on reducing corruption.
