Four-Story Building Collapses in Freetown
BBC’s Umaru Fofona reports that a building located at SS Camp in the hills above Freetown tragically collapsed last night during heavy downpours.
Community volunteers worked tirelessly through the night, using their bare hands in a desperate attempt to rescue those trapped under the rubble. Their efforts continue this morning with the support of an excavator brought in to assist. One volunteer, Inspector Lamish, revealed that two people have been successfully rescued, with a third currently being pulled out. Unfortunately, at least seven individuals are still believed to be trapped.
John Rogers, the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Agency, confirmed that their team is on the scene, working alongside the army, police, and Red Cross in the ongoing rescue operation. No deaths have been confirmed as of yet.
