IGP Sellu Strengthens Security Ties with Saudi Embassy in Freetown
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Freetown in a move aimed at bolstering security cooperation between the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
During the high-level engagement, IGP Sellu and Saudi Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Alheji discussed strategies for enhancing bilateral security efforts, with a focus on crime prevention and personnel development.
The police chief highlighted the SLP’s ongoing institutional reforms and emphasized the need for international support in specialized training, particularly in forensic analysis and other technical areas. He also briefed the ambassador on progress made as the force transitions into a more service-oriented institution.
Ambassador Alheji commended the SLP for its role in maintaining national stability amid global security threats. He expressed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the Sierra Leone Police, including potential training partnerships. The ambassador further indicated his intention to visit the Police Academy to assess areas where Saudi support could be most impactful.
The visit ended with a symbolic exchange of gifts, with IGP Sellu receiving a souvenir in recognition of his leadership and dedication to public safety.
The engagement marks a significant step toward strengthening diplomatic and security collaboration between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
