Instead of offering constructive solutions, these individuals focus on pointing out flaws in others’ work, contributing little themselves. Their actions create an atmosphere of blame-shifting and self-centeredness, which stifles industry growth.
These gatekeepers often use social media, radio, and television platforms to voice unwarranted criticism, undermining the efforts of hardworking industry professionals. They shift blame onto entertainers, criticizing the quality of sound, images, and videos, without acknowledging the role of sound engineers, music producers, film producers, and scriptwriters.
Despite their prolonged presence, these gatekeepers fail to offer substantial contributions, driven by self-centered motives. Their behavior hampers innovation and progress, highlighting the need for unity and collaboration within the industry.
While neighboring countries advance their entertainment sectors, Sierra Leone is embroiled in internal conflicts, preventing the industry from reaching its potential. The blame lies not only with the gatekeepers but also with industry players lacking the necessary knowledge and understanding. Stakeholders must come together, set aside personal agendas, and collaborate to build a stronger, more vibrant entertainment industry.
The harmful effects of unnecessary criticism and blame-shifting cannot be ignored. It is time for gatekeepers to focus on constructive solutions and support others’ efforts.
