Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Universidad Católica Silva Henriquez (UCSH) in Santiago, Chile. The collaboration, formalized through UCSH’s ABC Lab, aims to support the implementation and enhance the output of Sierra Leone’s Civic Education National Strategy and Salone Community Service Learning (SCSL) program.

The agreement, signed by Minister Bah and Dr. Hector Opazo on behalf of UCSH, seeks to bolster civic education across Sierra Leone. This partnership is intended to foster democratic values and civic engagement throughout the nation. By integrating UCSH’s expertise and resources, the initiative aims to create a more informed and participatory society.

A key focus of the MOU is to utilize Community Service Learning (CSL) as a tool to promote civic knowledge, open government, and digital citizenship. This approach aims to act as a community catalyst, encouraging coordinated multi-level actions and greater civic participation. The program will involve various community-driven projects designed to engage citizens in meaningful civic activities and education.

This MOU marks a significant step towards strengthening and promoting civic education initiatives in Sierra Leone. It reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development by enhancing the democratic process and civic engagement at all levels of society. The collaboration with UCSH is expected to yield substantial benefits, fostering a more engaged and informed citizenry.
