Makeni High Court Convicts Mohamed Koroma for Academic Malpractice
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has secured a conviction against Mohamed Koroma of No. 1 Thoronka Lane, Makeni, Bombali District, on one count of academic malpractice.
The High Court of Sierra Leone, sitting in Makeni and presided over by Hon. Justice Abubakarr Sannoh, found Koroma guilty under Section 128(3) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 as amended in 2019.
Koroma pleaded guilty to the charge after being caught on November 18, 2024, attempting to sit the Agricultural Science III paper of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on behalf of Kelfala Yusif Koroma, a registered candidate.
The court sentenced him to pay a fine of Fifty Thousand Leones (Le 50,000) or face five years’ imprisonment. He has been ordered to immediately pay Le 20,000, with the remaining Le 30,000 to be paid within two years.
The ACC reaffirmed its commitment to tackling academic fraud and other corrupt practices, emphasizing that such actions undermine the integrity of the country’s education system.
