NSA Director Calls for Politics-Free Sport
Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has called on lawmakers to separate politics from sports. This appeal was made during a visit from the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Sports, led by Chairman Hon. Hindolo Moiwo Gevao, as part of their mandate to promote transparency and secure approval for the NSA’s proposed budget.
Dr. Abdulai emphasized the economic and political benefits that sports can bring, stressing the need for a depoliticized approach to boost sector growth. Despite being in office for less than four months, he has already implemented 15% of the NSA Act and introduced four new regulations to advance sports development.
He urged parliamentarians to recognize the nationwide opportunities sports can create for youth. Dr. Abdulai also shared plans for his upcoming trip to Denmark, where he will seek support for installing artificial turfs in Class A chiefdoms, as part of his vision for a more vibrant and inclusive sports sector in Sierra Leone.
