Women’s right campaigner and educationist Dr Fatou Taqi has said politicians are servants and people should stop glorifying them. Her comment was part of her remark during the government’s weekly press briefing on Tuedsay, 9th January.
“We glorify our leaders and turn them into monsters, they are servants of the people and the rule of law must be maintained.”
During her remarks she spoke about a broad range of issues, one of which was electricity. Whiles criticizing government for not providing sustainable electricity, she also admonished citizens on personal responsibility.
“If you destroy government property for politics, it will not affect the politicians but you and your people who cannot afford to buy a generator,” she said.
Dr Taqi has been a critical voice on so many governance related issues in the last decade, most notably as the president of 50/50, an organization dedicated to female empowerment.
Here remarks on Tuesday echoes a lot of the sentiments many have shared in the past about these current situations.
