DUBAWA launches new edition of the Kwame Karikari Fellowship for Fact Checkers
Sierra Leone, Freetown [27 February 2024] – Dubawa is pleased to announce the launch of the Kwame Karikari Fellowship 2024. The fellowship will train Fact Checkers from countries like Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and The Gambia.
The training has been designed in response to the urgent need to battle misinformation and disinformation which primarily targets communities. The training will be intense and the fellowship itself will be long and rich in terms of experience sharing and learning.
The 2024 DUBAWA Kwame Karikari Fact-checking Fellowship Training represents a collaborative effort to bolster media literacy and uphold the integrity of information dissemination. By empowering journalists with the necessary skills and knowledge, the fellowship aims to foster a more informed society resilient to the perils of misinformation.
Training for this new batch of fellows started on the 26th February and will end on the 29th of February. Seasoned facilitators from the DUBAWA team and CJID (Center for Journalism Innovation and Development) will train the fellows on a vast array of subjects including several aspects of the information ecosystem; from how fake news is generated to understanding the cycle of information disorder.
Once the training is completed, the fellowship will start the fellowship on March 1st and end on August 30th. During the fellowship, fellows will be partnered with mentors and will be producing stories and fact checks.
