Roche Proposes Breast Cancer Center to First Lady Fatima Bio
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, a delegation from Roche, a multinational healthcare company, visited Sierra Leone’s First Lady Fatima Bio to present a proposal for establishing a comprehensive breast cancer center. The discussion focused on the roadmap for creating the center within the state-of-the-art 600-bed hospital at 34 Military Hospital in Freetown. This vital project is led by Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio.
First Lady Fatima Bio warmly welcomed the Roche delegation, expressing her strong commitment to healthcare development. “This represents a significant opportunity,” she stated. “My goal is to ensure our citizens no longer need to seek cancer treatment abroad, particularly those with financial constraints.” She also highlighted the Office of the First Lady’s support in training 42 nurses and doctors to enhance the nation’s healthcare capacity.
Roche, renowned for its contributions to oncology, specializes in developing and manufacturing prescription drugs and diagnostic tools, with their innovative treatments making a substantial impact in the fight against cancer worldwide.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister 2 of Health, Dr. Jalikatu Mustapha.
